lets call it for what it is

Basically this is on hiatus until the middle of September (when we finally settle into our apartment on campus). I have a bunch of posts queued up, but no time/energy to follow up with them on a regular basis. I promise this will become lively again soon =) (hell, its only a few weeks anyway). We’re down in Monterey this weekend, Tahoe next weekend, Philadelphia the following, moving/wedding in Yuba City the following, GSB events the following… basically we’re booked....

Fly out… Pack-Move… Drive back I’m out the next two weeks. Catch you on the flip side…

purge

So this weekend was spent purging my mom’s house of basically 15 years of crap buildup between three brothers. When you try to visualize the numbers, remember, the bags I’m referring to are the hug Hefty black trash bags… 18+ bags of trash 14 bags of recycling 30+ bags of goodwill 1 couch 4 twin beds+mattresses 1 very large TV And this doesn’t include the garage, which could probably rival the numbers on a sheer order of magnitude....

Reiser

I am only superficially aware of the murder allegations surrounding Hans Reiser (creator of the ReiserFS), but this Wired article is shocking, disturbing, and incredibly well written. Wired in general has particularly good writers on staff, but this expose is incredibly poignant. Since the Duke Lacrosse case everyone is especially careful about any presumption of guilt prior to having all the facts. However, with the description of what is currently in the public area, this literally could have come straight from a Law & Order/CSI episode....

its about time!

Google Maps finally allows you to modify the route when you get directions. You can click-n-drag anywhere on the blue direction line to move it to another street. The interface is pretty slick. I’m actually surprised it took this long.

facebook

Crap. You know, I never gave “social networking” sites much thought. I didn’t think it would have enough draw. Now we have the start of social analysis based on which site you use, myspace or facebook. Many bands now have a presence on myspace, and I’ve popped in to check them out… never tried facebook. Myspace never appealed to me, but facebook’s networking is certainly a draw. Being able to see people from your high school or college class is the killer feature I didn’t know they had....

heros of gaming

Its definitely nice to see Ragnar’s characters getting a little love. Zoe and April come in 4th on a list of top 25 Video Game Heroes. I don’t think it is without merit either. The Longest Journey and Dreamfall have some of the deepest and satisfying protagonists in gaming. I still need to try Indigo Prophecy which I hear is just as deep. Ragnar’s new project, The Secret World was announced a few months ago but no additional details, as of yet....
