The new single from Ayreon’s new album 01011001. Fantastic ensemble cast… He always puts together great singers with some great performances and catchy harmonies.
The video is pretty abstract, but seems to fit well with the song. I received the album yesterday, and will listen to the two discs this week to and from work. There is just no one else doing anything that sounds like this.
I’m going to post a follow up later this weekend… As soon as you can, go buy/rent/borrow the first season of Jericho, and then go to cbs.com and watch the first 4 (of 7) episodes for season 2.
It was already cancelled once, and the fans managed to get CBS to buy 7 episodes for this season… nothing is yet confirmed on it’s future. CBS doesn’t have nearly as many “shows” as Fox or ABC… And given they don’t spend nearly enough promoting the show, the only thing to be done is do it by word of mouth....
Another Flight of the Conchords gem…
There are a lot more fully informed opinions on Apple iPhone SDK announcement, but here are a few of my thoughts as to how it relates to my own personal world…
Apple struck a good compromise on control versus freedom. I think most people are happy with the benefits and willing to accept the limitations. I have never tried the Apple Xcode development platform... I might have to spring for a mac mini =) No 3G or GPS announcement....
And another one for good measure…
This is the sort of software Microsoft should be releasing. The seamless integration, very similar to what Google Earth did for looking around our little blue-green planet, makes it that much more accessible. I’ve tried downloading those huge images from Hubble and never had a computer with enough memory to open one. Making those high resolutions accessible opens up worlds (excuse the pun) to everyone from any walk of life… not just a handful of super computers around the world....
Icon design falls into the “hard” category in my book. It really breaks down to a minimal conveyance of an idea that also has to be attractive and fit into the rest of your design. This is a rather good breakdown of the various mistakes you see in various operating systems and applications.
In the old days, you worked with a 16x16 or 32x32 canvas and pixel by pixel painted your icon....
So the current set of rumors (I never thought I’d sink this low… it won’t happen again) is that the iPhone SDK will be tightly controlled (Bad) and that a 3G revision is due sometime this summer. Ugh.
First of all, the fact that the iPhone didn’t ship with a native SDK (or that Steve Jobs thought Safari web-applications were good enough) is incredibly stupid. On so many levels… I can’t even begin to express my frustration....
Next month my contract with Cingular AT&T, at which point I can either switch providers or get a discount on a phone upgrade. I can’t see any compelling reason to switch to either Sprint, Verizon or Tmobile. Most people I’d call are on the AT&T network (so you get the mobile to mobile feature to offset minutes), and I’m pretty sure I want to stick with a GSM phone. So unless anyone can think of something I’ve missed, I think I’ll end up sticking with AT&T....
An absolutely fascinating graphic produced by the NY Times….
Who would have thought National Treasure would be that eclipsing. There was a piece on BBC regarding how producers and executives in the film industry recognize that they need to put out “popular” projects (eye-candy, popcorn matinées, etc) to support the truly “great” films that they want to do… Basically Oscar “worthy” films can’t carry a studio alone. (Note that all the quotations are conveying mass relativism)....
