Overture For a New World

Back in the day (before such modern things as compressed digital audio and mp3s), MIDI was king. For me, it was initially driven by the soundtracks of Sierra’s adventure games like Kings Quest 6 and Quest for Glory 3 and 4. It expanded into hobbyist music editors (think early, early versions of Cakewalk), and eventually I purchased a Roland JV-35 keyboard for the sole reason of improving the sound of my MIDI files (and this was before SB AWE Soundfont technology)....

Roland JV-35 ROMs

Below are the three songs included in my old Roland JV-35. While the standard GM complement of samples sounds a bit dated, I always thought these songs were well done and did a good job of showing off the keyboard. Within Temptation - What Have You Done (Extended)

I did a music video using the extended version of Within Temptation’s “What Have You Done,” again using scenes from Twilight. Once again, WMG are bastards and have blocked the audio on Youtube so I can’t host them there, even though I thought they had reached an agreement a few months ago to start allowing their content. At some point, someone needs to clarify if amateur music videos are Fair Use (I believe so)....

Within Temptation - What Have You Done (Twilight)

So due to a short sighted WMG, I’m hosting this new video myself. I’ve had to compress it down a bit more that I would like (though should still look OK at full screen), and the FlowPlayer logo is a little obtrusive (but I’m not yet sure how often I’ll need to host these myself, so I’m hesitant to buy a full license… great piece of software though). I still can’t believe WMG universally pulled out all their content....
